Northern Exposure 2

The first destination of the cruise was the Hubbard Glacier. The weather was sunny and warm and a perfect day to be at the glacier. The ice that is calving (breaking off) is approximately 400 years old. And....for you Al Gore fans...this glacier is actually advancing rather than retreating and is coming close to damming up a fjord to turn it into a lake. Susan and I got to see and hear some big time calving of ice off the glacier. The sound that is made is called "white thunder" by the natives and it does sound like thunder. This glacier is over 30 stories high. Another example of the beautiful design of creation...uh...seeing this does not make you think this was a result of randomness.

I've also posted a photo from the Seward Highway we drove on Friday.

PS...the food and service on the boat has been great.
