I just finished reading Blue Like Jazz, by Donald Miller. While it is a somewhat interesting read, I am suprised it has become so popular. It was sort of a Into the Wild for Christians. He makes some good points about how we should accept and and expose ourselves to all kinds of people, but he rambles on about how drunk, pot-smoking hippies living in the forest are nicer and better than most people. He seems to be a drifting person who is very self-centered and would not have a clue as to what it would mean to be committed to family and raising of a child. Miller also seems obsessed with being able to cuss and use alchohol to exceess in a Christian context.
He makes a good point about the importance of giving....like it is a new revolutionary concept. It is revolutionary, but he seems to have taken a long time to discover a basic Christian idea.
Anyway, it is worth reading and it does make a good point that being a Republican is not really about being a Christian.
